Speaker Profile:

Shri Snehal Tranlsawala has passed out B.E. Chem. From DDIT in 1986 and Masters in Chemical

Engineering from Villanova University US Philadelphia. He has also done one year Programme

Certificate of Business Excellence with the University of California, Berkeley. He has worked with

a multinational company in the US for 9 years. He returned to Bharuch in 1998 and since then has

worked with UPL, Isagro, Cheminova, Omnova Solution in the local area in the field of production,

Operation Excellence and Safety. Currently he is self-employed in commercial/financial areas. He

is Hon. Treasurer IIChE Ankleshwar Regional Centre Bharuch.


Expert lecture description:

An expert talk was organized by Chemical Engineering Department, GEC Bharuch on “Plant

Economics (Cost Estimation)” under the banner of IIChE student’s chapter.


The following topics were covered in the Expert lecture.

• Methods for estimating capital investment

• Estimation of the total product cost

• Manufacturing cost.

• Direct production costs

• Indirect production costs

• General Expenses


In the expert lecture, Shri Snehal Tralsawala explained the importance of project

management. He has discussed methods for estimating Fixed Capital investment,

Working capital investment, Estimation of the total product cost, manufacturing cost, Direct

production costs like Raw material, operating labor as well as indirect production costs.

He explained methods for estimating capital investment, administrative expenses,

Distribution and marketing expenses, Research and development expenses, and Financing

expenses. Students were able to understand the Significance of Economics in the field of

Chemical Engineering.
