Programme Summary:

AICTE Training And Learning (ATAL) Academy – New Delhi financially sponsored, CTE-Gandhinagar approved one-week online FDP on “Waste Technology” in association with IIChE students’ Chapter GEC Bharuch has been organized in Chemical Engineering Department, Government Engineering College, Bharuch.

Duration:

20th December- 24th December 2021

Objective:

The main objective of organizing this FDP is to impart technical knowledge regarding the treatment of waste generated in process industries and innovations to achieve better waste and recycling outcomes across different locations, scales, waste streams, and materials.

Participants:

Total 131 Faculty members of Degree and Diploma colleges from India. In this FDP, a total of 14 technical sessions has been planned for the duration of 2 hrs each. Total fourteen different eminent speakers have delivered expert talks. This FDP has planned for 05 days (03 sessions /day from 10.30 am to 5.45 pm)

Summary of Event:

Inaugural Ceremony:

The “WASTE TECHNOLOGY” FDP began with the inauguration ceremony which was graced by Chief Guest of the event Shri M.A. Hania, Sr. Vice President Meghmani fine-chem and Guest of Honor Prof. (Dr.) Sachin Parikh, Joint Director, CTE Gandhinagar. The inauguration ceremony started with the Saraswati Vandana. Dr. N. R. Vaghela, Asso. Prof. & Head, Chemical Engg. Dept. & Coordinator of FDP enlightened the participants about the importance of this training program. Dr. S.R. Joshi, Principal, GEC-Bharuch & Patron of FDP explained how such programs help in developing Research & Development activities in educational institutes.

Dr. S.R.Joshi, Principal, G.E.C.-Bharuch felicitated Chief Guest Prof.(Dr.) Sachin Parikh and IIChE Executive Council Members Shri. Sunil Thakar (Chairman) of Ankleshwar Regional Centre, Gujarat. The session was further blessed with the kind words of Shri. Sunil Thakar. A heart-warming vote of thanks was given by Dr. N. R. Vaghela, Coordinator of FDP. Dr. N. H. Tahilramani and Prof. R. R. Mishra, Co-coordinators of FDP Coordinated the inaugural ceremony and encouraged participants to come forward and take maximum benefits of this training programme.

Session Details:

Day 1:

After the inaugural ceremony, Prof. (Dr.) Sachin Parikh, Joint Director, CTE Gandhinagar, keynote speaker delivered a talk on “Wastewater - its journey to treatment and return to the environment”. He explains the primary, secondary and tertiary treatment of wastewater in the expert talk. Dr. Bharat Jain, Member Secretary, GCPC, Gandhinagar, discussed “Cleaner Production”. He discuss the various cleaner production techniques for industries during the second session and Dr. Pushan Shah, Principal Scientific Officer, Environment Protection Authority, Adelaide, Australia delivered a talk on “Environmental Regulation: Air Pollution. Dr. Pushan explains the air emission sources, relative particles, and their effect on the body and stack testing. He also discusses the sensors for air pollution measurement and air quality modeling in this expert talk on the 20th of December 2021.

Day 2:

Dr. R. A. Sengupta, Retired Professor, MSU of Baroda delivered expert talk on “Liquid Waste Treatment” during first session. In the expert talk Dr. R. A. Sengupta explain the hazardous liquid waste treatment techniques. Dr. M. H. Joshipura, Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad discussed “Water reuse using Pinch Technology”. Dr. M. H. Joshipura discussed various methods for conserving and reusing of water in second session and Dr. V. N. Lad, Associate Professor, SVNIT, Surat discussed on “Process Intensification for Waste Remediation” during third session. In this expert talk Dr. Lad discussed process intensification and its modeling for chemical reactors and mixing intensification on 21th of December 2021.

Day 3:

Dr. P. N. Parameswaran, Advisor to BEIL group of companies, Ankleshwar delivered expert talk on “Hazardous waste management-Rules, Implementation and Case study”, he explains various rules for hazardous waste management with case studies in first session. Mr Anand Sutaria, Head Environment, Reliance Industries Ltd, Dahej discussed “Environmental legislation in India” and played environmental quiz in kahoot and explains the Indian environmental legislation during second session. Dr. V.G. Gandhi, Associate Professor, DDIT, Nadiad discussed on “Case Studies on Heterogeneous Photo catalysis using Nano-material” in third session. Dr. Gandhi explains the UN sustainable development goals, advanced wastewater treatment and types of photo catalytic reactors in detail on 22th of December 2021.

Day 4:

Dr. Jayesh Ruparelia, Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, delivered expert talk on “Industrial Effluent - Treatment Recycle and Reuse: A case study of steel industries” during first session. Dr. Jayesh Ruparelia had explain in detail about the gaseous, liquids and solids effluents generated in steel industries and its treatment process, Mr. Pratik Dewani, Director, Eco Earth Technology, Ankleshwar discussed on “Environmental Approval from various govt. & non-govt. bodies” during second session. He explains various norms to get Environmental approval from various bodies. Dr. Namrata Zariwala, Assistant Professor, SVNIT, Surat delivered expert talk on “Recent Advances in Solid Waste Management. Dr. Namrata Zariwala explains the scenario of solid waste management in world and india, solid waste management rules 2000 and 2016 features in third session on 23rd of December 2021.

Day 5:

Dr. Kaushik Nath, Professor & Head, GH Patel College of Engg. and Tech., V.V. Nagar, Anand, delivered expert talk on “Process Intensification via strategic integration of membrane operations for sustainable development”. He explains the importance of advanced separation processes by using membrane and advantages of integrated membrane process during first session. Dr. Nitin Padhiyar, IIT, Gandhinagar discussed on “Relevance of Meditation in Contempary Academic & Research” during second session and explains the practical aspects of clarity in mind, purity in heart and sincerity in action on 24th of December 2021.

Valedictory Ceremony:

The training program (FDP) ended with the valedictory ceremony which was graced with the presence of Dr. S. R. Joshi, Principal, G.E.C.-Bharuch and Shri Yogesh Patel Executive Director GNFC Bharuch.

Dr. S.R.Joshi, Principal, G.E.C.-Bharuch in his welcome address appreciated the efforts given in this FDP by Chemical Engineering Department as a team and Co-ordinator and Co-coordinators of FDP. Dr. S. R. Joshi also explained the importance of incorporating such training programs to enhance research culture in this institute. He emphasized the need of such programs which provide a unique opportunity to explore the boundaries of currently known various domains of Engineering and Technology through a different range of research experiences. Shri Yogesh Patel blessed with kind words by congratulating Co-ordinators and organizing committee for organizing the successful FDP “Waste Technology”. The valedictory function ended with feedbacks from participants and the vote of thanks given by FDP Coordinator, Dr. N. R. Vaghela.
