Industrial visit Description:

43 MLD Sewage Treatment plant situated at Atladra, Vadodara, daily treats nearly 43 million liters of sewage that comes from around the city. After treating the sewage water, it is discharged to Vishwamitri river located in Vadodara.

Our plant visit started at 10:35 a.m. The plant operator stated as raw sewage stored in tank enters the plant and goes through primary and secondary treatment.

At the first stage of physical treatment or say Primary treatment, place mechanical screening is done. Material like plastic waste except having a size of less than 8mm will pass through the screen and with a size greater than 8 mm will not pass and removed gradually.

In the 2nd Stage, sewage enters the grit chamber where the material like grit (Stone, sand) having higher density will be settled down and removed through the grit chamber. After that effluent passes to the primary clarifier/primary sedimentation tank where it is held steady for some time so the remaining particles get settled down.

Now the primary effluent leaves the clarifier and goes into an aeration tank for secondary treatment (Biological Treatment) where organic matter/impurity is removed using bacteria and by providing sufficient oxygen to decompose it.

The decomposed organic matter is transformed into a mist-like substance that floats on the surface and the activated sludge formed is then removed from the clarifier and passes to the Thickener beds.

The effluent finally from the secondary clarifier enters the chlorination tank where the remaining bacteria are killed and sent river.

The Following plant Parameter variable data is provided by the plant operator:

pH TSS BOD COD
Inlet Data 7.15 238 218 423
Outlet Data 7.52 17 14 52
